What is an apprenticeship?
An apprenticeship is a real job with training built in. You are employed, paid a wage and work alongside experienced colleagues, while spending part of your paid hours learning the knowledge and skills for your role.
At the end you complete an independent assessment and gain a nationally recognised qualification.
Which apprenticeships does Nextstep offer?
We deliver programmes from Level 2 to Level 5 in health and social care, early years and education, business and management, digital and technology, creative and marketing, and housing and property.
Browse all apprenticeshipsWhat qualification will I get?
Each apprenticeship leads to a recognised qualification at the level shown on the programme page. Level 2 is equivalent to GCSEs, Level 3 to A levels, and Levels 4 and 5 to the first years of a degree.
Some programmes also include functional skills in maths and English if you need them.
How long does an apprenticeship last?
Most of our programmes take between 12 and 24 months, depending on the level and the role. Your learning plan sets out the timeline before you start, and your tutor keeps you on track throughout.
Will I be paid?
Yes. Apprentices are employees with a contract, paid holiday and at least the apprentice minimum wage. Once you are 19 or over and have finished your first year, the National Minimum Wage for your age applies. Many employers pay more than the minimum.

Anyone aged 16 or over who lives in England, has the right to work in the UK and is not in full-time education. There is no upper age limit.
You can be starting your first job, changing career or already working for an employer who wants to develop you.
Do I need GCSEs in maths and English?
Not always. Entry requirements vary by programme and employer. If you do not yet hold maths and English at the level your programme needs, we can usually help you work towards them as part of your apprenticeship.
Do I have to pay for my training?
No. Apprentices never pay for their training. It is funded by the employer and the government.
Can I do an apprenticeship instead of university?
Yes. Higher-level apprenticeships let you gain a qualification while earning, without tuition fees or student debt. Many apprentices go on to further study or senior roles later in their careers.
What happens when I finish?
Many apprentices stay with their employer in a permanent role, often with more responsibility or a pay rise. Others progress to a higher-level apprenticeship with us. Your tutor will talk through your options before you finish.
How do I find and apply for a vacancy?
Browse our current vacancies, open any role to read the details and select Apply. The form takes about 10 minutes, so have your CV ready as a PDF or Word document.
If there is nothing suitable right now, save a search or send us an enquiry and we will let you know when something comes up.
See current vacanciesWhat happens after I apply?
You will receive an email confirming we have your application. Our recruitment team reviews every one and will contact you, usually within five working days, either to arrange a conversation or to let you know the outcome.
If you are shortlisted, we prepare you for the employer’s interview and support you through to your start date.
What should I include on my CV?
Keep it to one or two pages. Include your contact details, education and any grades, work experience (part-time jobs and volunteering count), and the skills you would bring. A short opening paragraph about why you want the role helps you stand out.
Can I apply for more than one vacancy?
Yes. Apply for each role that interests you. Tailor your cover note to each one so the employer can see why you suit their team.
